Si bien el estancamiento de la economía argentina reconoce un momento de inicio a mediados de la década de 1970, ya promediando los años cincuenta, el desenvolvimiento de la industrialización se vio sometido a diferentes trabas y su comportamiento estuvo signado por recurrentes conflictos por la distribución del ingreso y una persistente y elevada inflación. Estos fenómenos influyeron de manera decisiva en la formulación de diagnósticos muy críticos sobre el desempeño económico argentino y en la elaboración de estrategias de aguda confrontación por parte de los distintos actores.Cuando parecía que se estaban superando lentamente las rigideces que constreñían el desarrollo de la economía argentina desde los años cincuenta, los diferentes contendientes sociales y políticos observaron con pesimismo esa evolución, proceso que se acentuaría aún más en el marco de la crisis capitalista internacional de los años setenta. Con el golpe de Estado de 1976, una fracción de los sectores dominantes propuso una reformulación radical de las políticas económicas que tenía como propósito disciplinar a los actores económicos y minar las bases de un orden económico basado en la industrialización orientada al mercado interno.Precisamente, el arco temporal que abarca este libro se inicia a mediados de la década de 1950 y culmina en la crisis del año 2001, momento en que se produjo el colapso del orden económico neoliberal implantado por el menemismo. La "segunda apertura", en el marco de la convertibilidad, había introducido transformaciones radicales en la economía argentina y alentó así una nueva reconfiguración de los sectores dominantes: los grupos económicos y el capital extranjero.Autoras y autores plantean en cada capítulo renovadas preguntas y ofrecen nueva evidencia empírica en torno a las relaciones entre el Estado, las corporaciones y los sectores empresariales.
