Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2011 im Fachbereich Soziologie - Arbeit, Ausbildung, Organisation, Note: 1,3, Universität Leipzig (Institut für Soziologie), Veranstaltung: Soziologie der Emotionen, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Dem rational handelnden homo oeconomicus wurde sowohl in der Ökonomie als auch in der Soziologie jahrelang nichts weniger zugeschrieben als eine emotionale Facette die sein Handeln beeinflusst. Gefühle wurden als Störfaktoren verurteilt, bis sich die Perspektiven ab 1980 änderten und Emotionen erstmals ins Zentrum soziologischer Analysen rückten (vgl. Flam 2002: 178, 200). Neue Erkenntnisse aus Ökonomie und Neurowissenschaften stimmen heute mit dem aktuellen Forschungsstand der Emotionssoziologie überein, welcher postuliert, dass "wirtschaftliche Organisationen und ihre Akteure Emotionen weder aus ihren Funktionskreisen ausschalten können noch darauf verzichten, Gefühle für ökonomische Zwecke zu nutzen" (Neckel 2005:420). Die flexible, nach eigenen Wünschen formbare Persönlichkeit ist gar zu einer Art Modetrend verkommen, den die breite Masse dankbar annimmt. Indikatoren dafür seien nicht zuletzt die "Flut von Ratgebern und populären Sachbüchern" (Neckel 2005: 422), die unter professioneller Aufbereitung eine Anleitung zur Selbst- und Fremdsteuerung bieten. Das käufliche Rezeptwissen zu emotionalem Selbstmanagement sei die "Lösung verschiedenartigster Effizienzprobleme modernen Managements" (Neckel 2005: 423). Die Untersuchungen von Hochschild und Goleman folgen unterschiedlichen Sichtweisen auf Gefühlsarbeit: Goleman interessiert die Optimierung des beruflichen Erfolgs mit Hilfe von Emotionsarbeit. Dabei stehen vor allem Führungskräfte im Fokus. Hochschild hingegen beschäftigt sich mit der Gefühlsarbeit von Angestellten. Die Fähigkeit, Emotionen nach Wünschen des Arbeitgebers zu unterdrücken, zu modellieren oder neu herzustellen wird bei Hochschild detailliert am Beispiel von Dienstleistungsberufen beschrieben.
