Er wendet sich zur An-dersheit des Anderen hin, zur zwischenmenschlichen Begegnung der sprachphilosophischen Wende der Ethik in der multikulturellen Zivilisation. Traditionell leitet sich die Ethik nach dem Vorbild des Aristoteles aus der Ontologie ab. Die Frage nach dem, was ist, geht der Fra-ge nach dem, was sein soll, voraus. Erst das Wissen von der Funktionsweise der Welt erlaubt es, Handlungsanweisungen abzuleiten. Lévinas dreht dieses Verhältnis im Sinne Platons wie-der um, bei ihm ist die Ethik die wichtigste Philosophie. Auch im prophetischen Judentum, dem Lévinas angehört, ist die Ethik im Menschen angelegt. Die Frage der Gerechtigkeit ist für ihn die Grundfrage. Sie geht der Frage nach der Wahrheit voraus, die Welt enthüllt sich nur aus der Perspektive des Guten und erhält nur dann einen Sinn. Allein die Annäherung an die Welt in einer Haltung, die ihr gerecht werden will, enthüllt deren Wahrheit, die sprachli-chen Schwankungen unterworfen ist. [...] Laut Lévinas' neuer These über das Sein, ist Seiendes extérieur, "so getrennt voneinander, so äu-ßerlich, auswärtig und fremd füreinander, dass das Eine dem Anderen unentwegt neu begeg-net" . Dabei ziehen sie einander an und stoßen einander ab, aber niemals können sie sich ein-ander entziehen. Dies wird unmittelbar deutlich in der Erfahrung des face-á-face, des Von-Angesicht-zu-Angesicht. Um sie gruppiert Lévinas nun die Erfahrungen des Genusses und der Leiblichkeit, des Besitzes und der Arbeit, des Schmerzes und der Geduld, der Liebe und der Fruchtbarkeit
