About the Book

Boisterous students at the University of Virginia chase parties, grades, romance, and honor, in this action novel sited in one of the most iconic colleges in America. The storyline traces the glories and picadelos of three third-year students operating from Room 401 of historic Breckenridge Hall, through their graduations at the all-male university. All-American lacrosse player, Elmo Wallbanger, makes good grades and is popular, Bones Toliver is a smart pre-med student, Kong Craddock plays football on and off. Adding to the revelry and predicaments, their mates and an ill-tempered wreck of an automobile also help fill the air with soot bombs and cacophonous noises around the hallowed Grounds of UVA, and any other place its daredevil driver attempts to drive it. The time is the 1950s, brassy overture to fundamental social changes in America. Readers can forget the University's all-male status, for these worthies move mountains to attract prime women to participate in their romances and off-the-wall events. Females in the women's colleges surrounding them are wonderfully collaborative and hot to trot. Besides adventure and humor galore, the storyline includes a memorable love story that dramatically affects the lives of the main characters.
About the Author: After editing a daily newspaper and then the newsletter "Brookmire Investment Reports," which became "Standard & Poor's Weekly Outlook," H. B. Bonham wrote investment reports and directed industry research for Wall Street firms. In the 1990s, he operated Howard Bonham Research, an independent research firm in Houston, Texas. That opportunity arose because scandals of corrupt research on Wall Street had created a demand for independent opinions. He was very much off-Wall Street, yet advantageously located in the hubbub of oil and gas happenings in Houston. He published other industry reports as well. When the bubble burst on Internet stocks and stocks in general in the 1990s, he completed and sold his investment and financial dictionary-"The Complete Investment and Financial Dictionary"-and resolved to concentrate on freelance and creative writing. He has written and published "The Red Cross Rainmaker" and "The Turning of Waitey McColl." Also, he maintains two websites--www.hobonham.com and www.howeybonham.com. Presently, he lives in Maryland, a few miles from the Chesapeake Bay. The eastern shore is one of his favorite places, and he visits there as often as possible. After a career of writing structured reports on portfolios, companies and industries, he says he has broken free. However, he looks forward to tackling investment topics again; for his cowering MBA muse in a pin-striped suit still hangs around. H. B. Bonham is a graduate of the University of Virginia, and attended the graduate school of the University of Oklahoma.
