Ted Moseley, a widower and recently retired businessman, didn't know what to expect when he relocated to the Brookstone Manor retirement community. Little did he know his mature blue-eyed athletic smile would attract the attention of a former flame - also a Brookstone Manor resident. Ted and Sally Morris, an active and attractive widow of a successful attorney, go on from a pleasant chat at their randomly assigned dining table to rediscover themselves and each other. Life at Brookstone is full of comedic happenings and humorous interactions. Amid the adventure of their new life in retirement, Ted & Sally end up have many encounters, some steamy (both literally and figuratively) and some not, but all of which lead to rekindling a love long lost.
Rod Lowrey, the author, is no stranger to the setting described in The Elevated Heart. He is a relatively recent newcomer to retirement living in a community much like the one portrayed at Brookstone Manor. It is Lowrey's hope that The Elevated Heart will make readers smile, laugh and maybe even cry a bit, but in the end they will feel their own spirits are elevated by the story of Ted & Sally's new found life at Brookstone Manor.
About the Author: Since he began living in a retirement community, Lowrey has exercised a dormant creative talent - writing. In addition to writing The Elevated Heart, he also writes poems, limericks, and short stories. The source for his material is the accumulated "happenings" of a life well-lived, which are for Lowrey extremely generous, varied, and entertaining. In the "senior citizens' tale" which is the The Elevated Heart, Lowrey has taken inspiration from the people and places in his own life and interjected his own spin, fun and frivolity.
Like the male lead in his book, Lowrey was a businessman before retirement. Before beginning his career, Lowrey graduated from Culver Stockton in Missouri with a degree in business administration and psychology. From there he went on to work in a variety of fields: brick salesman, stockbroker, investment advice writer, gentleman farmer, and finally as a land developer. Along the way, he and his wife were co-creators and co-founders of a K-12 independent college preparatory school outside of Winston-Salem, North Carolina. After his wife's death in 2007, Lowrey relocated to a retirement community outside of St. Louis, where he continues writing today.
