About the Book

Elements of Film Editing- Author: Kuldeep Sinha 'If you want to be a good Film Director then first be a good EditoR, ' thus said the veteran Indian film maker Hrishkesh Mukharjee. Within the closed doors of Editing room an Editor can make, create or break a film with his creative vision and expertise. A film Editor is just not a cutter and joiner but he is the most creative person in the film crew who holds the keys of a 'Good film'. A well shot film can be ruined by an unimaginative Editor and a 'poorly shot' film can be made interesting by the Editor's vision. The job of an Editor can best be compared with that of a chef who with the best ingredients at his disposal prepares delicious and lip licking delicacies by utilizing his innovative skills combined with proper quantity of ingredients and timing of heating or cooling the stuff while other may spoil the taste by his lack of knowledge, innovation and dedication. The book 'Elements of film Editing' deals with the concepts and principles of film Editing irrespective of the formats (celluloid or digital) being used for making a film however for the reference purpose I preferred celluloid format which has international technical standards in practice unlike its digital counterparts. . I am sure the book serves the purpose for which it is written.
About the Author: Kuldeep Sinha is a national award winning Author and film Writer, Editor and Director who has won considerable renowned for his thought provoking films and writings. He has three short story anthologies to his credit: Kashish, Siskiyaan and Dastak. His books on Film making 'Patkatha Lekhan Ke Tatva' ( Elements of screen play writing) and Film Nirdeshan (Direction) are equally popular with students of cinema He was conferred the Rajbhasha Shree and the Saraswat Samman at the Ashirwad awards, Hindi Sahitya Samman By the Ministry of Information and broadcasting, Government of India and few others. He has written, edited, produced and directed more than two hundred short films on a wide variety of subjects from Agriculture to Arts, from Music to Science and from News and current affairs to Educational films. His films have begged several National and International Honors. He was honored with 'Scroll of Honor' for outstanding services towards the welfare and growth of Hindi Talkie Cinema by Indian Organization of Mass Communication and School of Broadcasting & Communication, Mumbai, and the 'Life Time Achievement Award' for contribution in the growth and promotion of Documentary Films by International Centre for Cultural Relations, Mumbai and many more. An Honors graduate from the University of Pune, He also graduated in cinema from the Film and Television Institute of India with a rare flair in Hindi and English equally .He later studied Journalism, Press relations and Management. His English novels, 'Neither: The Birth of Transgender, ' analyzes the evolution, the turbulences, social, economic and legal discriminations in the lives of transgender people and 'Behind the moving Images' attempts to take a realistic yet measured peep in to the lives of stars and their makers and tell us vividly, how darkness overpowers them once the arcs are faded away, albeit unknown to the outside world most of the times, His other book 'Mohammad Rafi: The Melody Man' is a tribute to one of the greatest Playback singer of Indian cinema. 'Elements of Film Editing' is a complement to his other books on Cinema Education.
