About the Book

Long ago the Eldari people, a long-lived race of vampiric beings, came to use humans as protectors and sealed them with magical seals that shortened their lives but granted great power. A prophecy was told that one such guardian would rise and bring about a unification of the land and reduce the disparity of human and Eldari lifespans, but at the cost of many lives in the empire and even the empire itself. After the passing of the princess's guardian, Xun is selected because of his unusual abilities, and the princess's adolescent attraction to him. Shortly after, the belief that he is the prophesied Bringer of Shadowlight begins to spread among the Eldari people in hushed whispers and rumors. After nearly three millennia of service, Xun is thrust into a great conflict, alone and unsupported after the Golden Sun Horde arises in the west and lays waste to the empire, forcing the bulk of the Eldari into stasis, or hiding in the far east. The princess he was bound to lives in the east after Xun portals her to safety in the last days of the war and begins to rebuild her empire while Xun is traveling the world and wiping out the enemies of the Eldari. He is driven by honor and duty to eliminate the Golden Sun and all those that support them so the princess will be safe, but he is unaware of the burden that is soon to be his to bear as the Bringer of Shadowlight. As he finishes off what he believes to be the last threats to the princess, he begins his trek east to find her. As he travels, he finds that many believe her to be dead and none know who he is anymore as it has been so long since the fall and his efforts to hide his identity were thorough; only the legend of his exploits as both famous and infamous Shadow Reaper are known, but none know that he is the reaper. He finally comes to the princess's home in the east and finds she has ascended to the throne with the help of many turned humans and the few Eldari that survived the fall outside of stasis. When he meets her, he is not recognized as he has done exceedingly well at preventing anyone from knowing his identity for the last four hundred years. She is initially outraged by his arrival but comes to recognize him as he presents himself to her and reveals his seal. After being restored to his place as her guardian, she learns from her father's journal that Xun is the prophesied savior of her people and the one that will bring balance to the world between humans and Eldari. She uses the ancient ritual of ascension to bring about the first stages of the change and he becomes her husband. In their union, and the efforts they make together as the rulers of the empire, they bring about the prophecy and fulfill the promise of peace and unification in their world.
