About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

Traversed by olfactory memory and bathed in the light of Asturias, The Summer We Returned to Alegranza is an evocative novel that reminds us that good stories, like good perfumes, are always essential.

Leandra is an editor at a fashion magazine based in Madrid. At the age of thirty-five, she has distanced herself from her husband, lost the excitement she once had for her job, and has witnessed the death of her aunt Valentina in dramatic circumstances. In search of answers to the existential crisis in which she is immersed, she decides to spend a summer in Alegranza -the indianos house that her grandfather Tomás built in the Asturian town of Colunga- and accept the challenge of Jean-Luc Peltier, a prestigious perfumer she interviewed: make a perfume that helps you define yourself. As she delves into her childhood memories, infused with wild rose, hydrangea or honeysuckle, Leandra will unveil the different layers of secrets that, like the ingredients in a fragrance, make up the history of her family.
