El escrito más amplio que nos queda de Turcios dentro del género de la novela es El Vampiro. Turcios comenzó a escribirla en Guatemala, lugar donde vivió dos años: de 1908 a 1909; pero, como el mismo informa, el libro fue concluido en Tegucigalpa, habiéndose hecho la primera edición en octubre de 1910. Así escribe el autor: ]termine El Vampiro en enero de 1910, logrando su edición en octubre. Con su producto partí para Managua a fines de ese mes]. Este viaje lo hizo Turcios para incorporarse a las fuerzas militares que organizaba en Nicaragua el general Antonio Monterroso por órdenes de Manuel Bonilla para derrocar al Presidente Miguel R. Dávila. Turcios intervino, con el grado de coronel, en lo que se llamó el Ejército de Oriente, al mando de Monterroso. Su puesto era de Secretario del Comandante en Jefe y encargado de redactar el Boletín de la Revolución. El movimiento de Manuel Bonilla logro el propósito de derrocar a Dávila, gracias al apoyo que personalmente logro de Estados Unidos. En este gobierno Turcios fue director del diario semioficial El Nuevo Tiempo. La característica entreguista de los gobiernos hondureños condenó a Froylan Turcios al exilio, en donde murió en 1944 dejando varias obras inéditas. Entre esas obras Turcios mencionó las siguientes: Historia de Honduras (2 tomos), Presidentes de Honduras, Anecdotario Hondureño, Annabel Lee (novela), Biografía de un Amigo, Anecdotario Centroamericano, Prosas Cívicas, Los Dictadores Rosas y Francia, Luces y De todos los horizontes. Casasola Editores hace honor al legado de Froylán Turcios y publicamos, en esta ocasión, "El Vampiro", una novela modernista escrita en 1909 y publicada en octubre de 1910; reeditada posteriormente en 1930 en una edición limitada de doce ejemplares y de donde hemos extraído el texto para esta edición. El Vampiro mezcla una narrativa modernista cargada de emociones y sentimientos con las opiniones intelectuales de Turcios respecto a los conflictos del hombre frente al mundo.

Su obra, que incluye en sus propias palabras los libros publicados: Mariposas, 1895; Renglones, 1899-1903; Hojas de Otoño, 1904; El Vampiro, 1910; El Fantasma Blanco, 1911; Prosas Nuevas, 1914; Floresta Sonora, 1915; Tierra Maternal, 1915; Cuentos de Amor y de la muerte, 1929; Flores de Almendro, 1931 y Paginas de Ayer de 1932, junto a más de una docena de revistas y periódicos que fundó y dirigió, entre ellos El Boletín de la Defensa Nacional (a razón de la ocupación militar norteamericana en Honduras en 1924) se extiende frente a las nuevas generaciones ante la virtud de su ejemplo. Escritor incansable y crítico persistente de las injusticias, ocupó varios cargos en distintos gobiernos de la época, apoyó varios levantamientos armados de corte progresista en donde logró el cargo de Coronel, fue nombrado representante del ejército libertador de César Sandino, con quien más adelante se separó por diferencias en el procedimiento de establecer las alianzas para la guerra.
