Contrariamente a lo que se espera de un título que espante los buenos hábitos (de malos lectores), El sacerdote ateo plantea el viaje rumbo a la humanización; esta situación es posible en el hombre que se va construyendo: el sospechoso del saber dogmático, que impide acceder a otras formas de ver el mundo. El ateísmo se presenta como reacción inmediata a una Iglesia Católica que esgrime conceptos de amor y comprensión bajo una estructura rígida, que suspende toda capacidad de diálogo bajo la tiranía del significado único sustentado en la fe; de ahí su incomprensión del otro, su incapacidad de amar a quien no se ajusta a dicha estructura: un homosexual que desea tener un hijo, el padre de familia que cometió una infidelidad, el sacerdote alcohólico que tiene una amante e incluso la sospecha de un presunto pederasta dentro de la congregación, amigo y protector de un monaguillo. ¿Cómo guiar a los fieles rumbo una salvación en la que no se cree? Es la pregunta constante de un sacerdote católico, que después de un viaje a Roma, germina en su mente la posibilidad de que Dios no exista. Esta idea -hilo conductor de la novela- va ganando terreno en su mente, mientras lucha con sus más férreas creencias; de esta contienda surgen auténticos diálogos consigo mismo y con los demás, que llevarán a Eusebio a comprender su entorno y plantearse la posibilidad de abandonar su vocación religiosa; sin embargo, su caminar lo llevará por situaciones imprevistas como el asesinato de un hombre, crimen que guardará en secreto de confesión con un atisbo de locura.
About the Author: Joe Barcala, impactado por la literatura hispanoamericana, estudió en la Universidad de las Américas la Maestría en Literatura, aunque desde muy joven se volvió adicto a la literatura clásica que dejó marcado su interés por escribir; tanto que ya tiene casi 10 novelas terminadas. Además publica semanalmente 4 artículos y un vídeo con sugerencias de lectura en la red de internet. Sus obras son recreativas, con un elevado interés por descubrir a sus lectores mundos reales que parecen imaginarios por su apasionante intriga y su inescrutable suspenso. Su propuesta literaria ahonda en la necesidad de humanizar a la misma raza contemporánea que está inmersa en la vorágine de la posesión, el abuso del poder y la desorganización como modo de vida.
