About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The story of two brothers in the eighties who must face living among all kinds of people under the most famous bridge in Madrid: the suicide bridge. This is a thought provoking novel whose reading will leave you forever changed.

Just a week after the bridge's inauguration in 1875, the newspapers reported its first suicide, eight days later, the second one. Those were the first of a long list that would make up the sad myth of it being the destination of choice from which to jump from. That is why, a few months later, it was suggested to install more lights in its surrounding and to raise the height of the handrails to deter would-be suicides.

In this novel Oscar Rojo portrays Martín and Marga's learning and maturing process; two brothers who after the death of their mother arrive in Madrid and find shelter in an underworld. While the two are adapting to the bleakness of their new reality, we will also bear witness to their friends' stories through their own journey.

This is a work brilliantly gifted with harsh realistic journalism and literary bits, which casts a candid look at the Madrid of the eighties.
