Frente al pensamiento dependiente rehén de las opiniones ajenas, el pensamiento independiente supone basar nuestro comportamiento político en la reflexión personal y hacernos responsables absolutos de nuestro papel como ciudadanos en la toma de decisiones colectivas. En la actualidad, los procesos de decisión en democracias liberales son estudiados desde varios campos, en particular desde la Teoría de la Elección Social y la Economía Política. Ambas disciplinas nos proporcionan nuevas perspectivas para entender cómo debemos -y cómo no debemos- decidir sobre la independencia de Cataluña. Por ello el libro empieza con un capítulo dedicado al estudio normativo de la formación de las preferencias de la sociedad a partir de las preferencias de cada uno de los ciudadanos. Para los partidarios del ``derecho a decidir'', esta parte puede entenderse como una respuesta a un complementario ``derecho a saber decidir''. A continuación el libro se adentra en el examen del llamado proceso catalán y lo hace a lo largo de veinticinco puntos en los que el lector encontrará un análisis riguroso, entretenido y novedoso -basado en la comparación, la Lógica y la Teoría de Juegos- de muchos de los argumentos presentes tanto en la arena política como en las discusiones de sobremesa tan frecuentes entre amigos y familiares.
About the Author: Oriol Tejada Pinyol (Barcelona, 1980) posee la doble licenciatura en Matemáticas e Ingeniería de Telecomunicaciones por la Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya y es Doctor en Economía por la Universitat de Barcelona. En la actualidad es investigador postdoctoral en el Center of Economic Research de la ETH Zürich, universidad en la que también imparte cursos de máster y doctorado. Su investigación se enmarca en el estudio de la Teoría de Juegos, así como en su aplicación a modelos de Economía Política y Teoría de la Elección Social. Entre otros, sus trabajos publicados en revistas internacionales se centran en el estudio axiomático de los índices de poder, en el análisis de los precios competitivos en mercados multilaterales o en el estudio de las reformas políticas en democracia. Como investigador ha realizado estancias en universidades europeas y americanas e impartido una veintena de conferencias en congresos internacionales.
