El Karma ("para hacer", "acción" u "obra") tiene una base real y a lo largo de la historia los videntes de la India lo inmortalizaron en el Veda, aunque sufrió mala prensa cuando los misioneros europeos lo empequeñecieron denominándolo como "destino" y "fatalismo". Como todas las leyes, la Ley del Karma está bajo el mando, la jurisdicción, de ciertas entidades, en este caso, los Señores del Karma. Ellos son los jueces cósmicos y miran la acción y reacción de causas y efectos que nosotros pusimos en movimiento, y regulan esto según nuestras necesidades. Siempre que el alma se encarna en cada entidad, humana o subalterna, nuestras almas adquieren una personalidad con una estructura dada de energía. Las almas cooperan con los Señores del Karma decidiendo qué dolor o placer tendremos en cualquiera de nuestras vidas, aunque ello es una mala manera para describir lo que pasa. El alma no está interesada, ni siquiera lo están los Señores del Karma, en nuestro placer o sufrimiento. Estas son reacciones absolutamente dependientes de nuestras acciones o pensamientos. En lo que ellos están interesados es en el funcionamiento de la Ley, la Ley cósmica de Causa y Efecto, aunque también el alma tiene sus propios propósitos para cada encarnación dada. Ser perfectos es mucho más interesante que estar muertos, nadie lo duda, por lo que la mayoría de las personas acepta la premisa de intentar, más o menos, lograr el propósito del alma y quedarse con vida hasta el último momento para labrar su destino. Así, nosotros trabajamos con esta carga que nos hemos creado en el presente y en las vidas pasadas. En términos populares Karma ("acto") es un concepto que se emplea en las tres grandes religiones de la India para definir la efectividad de los actos humanos, y mediante los cuales quedarán determinados la clase y el nivel de la siguiente reencarnación. El Karma, pues, concibe la existencia humana como una larga cadena de vidas, en la que cada vida particular está determinada por las acciones de esta persona en su vida anterior. Por ello, una acción se convierte en Karma cuando se realiza buscando un fin, especialmente en cuanto a asegurarse una buena reencarnación. En las religiones de la India, que no conocen los conceptos de culpa, castigo y redención, el Karma es un concepto esencial para comprender los comportamientos humanos y el necesario equilibrio para asegurarse un comportamiento individual correcto
