La obra que estamos a punto de escribir, se divide en dos partes: en la primera, trazamos la historia del camino del pueblo de Israel, "desde Egipto al Jordán", mientras la segunda, trazamos el "paso del río Jordán a la tierra de Canaán".De este modo podremos tener una visión completa de todo el trayecto de este pueblo y de aquel que será para los cristianos, cuando terminen su peregrinaje terrestre.Este es el objetivo que intentamos perseguir en la presente disertación.Describir la historia del camino del pueblo de Israel desde su partida de Egipto hasta la tierra de Canaán, no es una empresa que se pueda terminar en pocas palabras, sino que requiere un cuidadoso examen de las diversas etapas indicadas en la Biblia y, en particular, en el Libro de los Números.En efecto, es en este libro que son enumeradas las localidades en las cuales el pueblo de Israel transcurre sus cuarenta años de peregrinaje, antes de arribar al Jordán, el río que constituía el obstáculo natura para entrar en la tierra de Canaán, la tierra que Dios había repetidamente prometido a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.Por tanto, examinaremos este periodo histórico durante el cual el pueblo de Israel tuvo diversas experiencias que luego habrían dejado una impronta para toda su vida.El texto principal sobre el cual nos basaremos será el capítulo 33 del Libro de los Números, en el cual son resumidas todas las etapas.Existen dos verbos que son repetidamente mencionados en los 49 versículos de este capítulo: partieron (43 veces) y acamparon (42 veces). Las localidades o paradas citadas son 43, y entre las más conocidas están: el Mar Rojo, el desierto de Zin y aquel del Sinaí. Se habla también de tres montes: Sefer, Hor y Abarim.Sin embargo, este volumen no sólo tiene una finalidad histórico-bíblica y no se limitará a la descripción de las diversas situaciones en las cuales viene a encontrarse el pueblo de Israel durante el largo peregrinaje desde Egipto a la tierra prometida, sino que también expondrá reflexiones y aplicaciones que seguramente proporcionarán útiles enseñanzas y enriquecimiento espiritual.Este es el objetivo primario que nos proponemos.En cambio, en la segunda parte el texto base que usaremos principalmente será el libro de Josué.En efecto, este texto bíblico, más que otra parte de la Biblia, describe, no sólo la entrada de los hijos de Israel en Canaán, sino que también ofrece noticias detalladas acerca de la posesión de este territorio.Liderado por Josué, Israel entra en la tierra prometida para tomar posesión, según una antigua promesa divina, que se remonta a Abraham, Isaac y Jacob.Fue, de hecho, para ellos que Dios prometió dar a sus descendientes, la tierra de Canaán. Si esto no hubiera ocurrido, la promesa de Dios habría quedado en letra muerta, sin ningún valor, tanto para los israelitas, el pueblo directamente interesado, como para todos los que vendrían en el futuro (especialmente los cristianos).En el curso de nuestra discusión, no solo destacaremos el cumplimiento de la palabra del Señor, sino que también sacaremos de ella enseñanzas útiles para la vida cristiana.En efecto, el propósito principal es aquel de consolidar nuestra fe en Dios y en su Palabra.La manera con la cual será conducida la presente discusión, no deberá ser considerada como si hubiésemos querido escribir un comentario sobre el libro de Josué.Aunque podemos anticipar que ciertos elementos de nuestro escrito, podrían inducir al lector a considerarlo como tal; sin embargo, no es este nuestro propósito, sino aquel de desarrollar el concepto cristiano y de contribuir a la edificación del pueblo de Dios.
