About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

The Assassination of García Lorca: a revised, updated, expanded version of one of the key works by Hispanist Ian Gibson, on the occasion of Federico García Lorca's 120th birthday.

After Cambodia, Spain is currently the nation with the highest number of missing people in mass graves: more than 115,000 victims of Franco's regime, among them Federico García Lorca. It's been almost half a century since the first edition of this semi-legendary book appeared in Paris in 1971.

Banned in Spain by the dictatorship, the book gained global momentum the following year by winning the prestigious International Press Prize at the Nice Book Festival.

Many copies made their way into Spain, where, after being revised and expanded, it was finally published in 1979, four years after Franco's death.

Throughout the following decades, much more was discovered about the circumstances surrounding the persecution and death of poet and playwright García Lorca, as well as thousands of other victims of repression in Granada.

Ian Gibson has incorporated all of this into this meticulous update to his research, coinciding with the 120th birthday of the author of Bodas de sangre (Blood Wedding).
