El mito del cambio social es una obra de conjunto, dirigida a cuestionar la extendida opinión de que la sociedad cambia sustancialmente y además lo hace de forma acelerada en los últimos tiempos. A partir del siglo XVIII cobró fuerza esa forma de entender la realidad, dando pie a la aparición de nuevas disciplinas que partiendo principalmente de ese postulado han centrado su actividad en demostrarlo, iniciándose además un proceso de especialización sin límites que ha llevado a la elaboración de gran cantidad de contenidos, muchas veces inconexos y carentes de una referencia común que les dé un imprescindible sentido de conjunto. Es evidente que hay cambios en la sociedad, pero esos cambios siempre han existido y obedecen a las naturales alteraciones de las circunstancias y del hábitat, constituyendo una constante que es preciso tener en cuenta debidamente, poniendo freno a la tendencia a exagerar ese aspecto variable, lo que en nuestra época ha originado un verdadero mito (el del cambio social), que se utiliza de forma impropia para ofrecer una pseudo-explicación de la realidad social, tratando de paliar así la frustración ocasionada por el fracaso en su análisis, pretensión vana en gran medida debido a la naturaleza peculiar y compleja de su objeto: el hombre y su vida social. Se inicia con El arte, inmutable un estudio por partes de lo social, con la intención de contribuir al esclarecimiento de la marcha de la sociedad, apostando por su esencia permanente. El mundo del arte es tenido como un dominio en el que el cambio es continuo, en el que poco o nada tienen que ver las manifestaciones de las distintas épocas y movimientos entre sí. Sin embargo, analizado en profundidad se observa tal cúmulo de elementos y aspectos que se mantienen de forma continuada, que hay más argumentos a favor de la permanencia que del cambio.
About the Author: José Antonio Martínez es licenciado en Derecho y Filosofía por la Universidad Autónoma de Madrid y DEA en Sociología por la Universidad de Valencia (España). Ha centrado sus análisis en el cambio social, sosteniendo una particular consideración del mismo, que partiendo del estudio de los factores más permanentes de la sociedad, propone una revisión de los postulados más externos en que se basa erróneamente, en su opinión, la teoría dominante en las disciplinas humanas en los últimos doscientos años, la del cambio social. En este sentido ha publicado varias obras ("Permanencia vs. Cambio", "Las nuevas tecnologías, como siempre", "La religión, sin cambios", "La sociedad, inalterable", etc.) dentro del proyecto global titulado "El mito del cambio social".
