Studienarbeit aus dem Jahr 2014 im Fachbereich Philosophie - Praktische (Ethik, Ästhetik, Kultur, Natur, Recht, ...), Note: 2,7, Universität Leipzig, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Anfang 2006 bis Ende 2007 wurde an der Friedrich-Schiller-Universität Jena von den Psychologinnen Kristin Mitte und Nicole Kämpfe-Hargrave eine Studie zum Thema Vegetarismus durchgeführt (Thivissen). Die Teilnehmer der Studie sollten verschiedene Onlinefragebögen zu ihren Essgewohnheiten ausfüllen, sowie Abbildungen von u.a. "Fleischprodukten, Tierhaltung und Schlachtung in verschiedenen Dimensionen wie Ekel und Moral einschätzen" (Thivissen). Zunächst wurde untersucht, welche Motivationen die befragten Personen zu einer vegetarischen Lebensweise bewegten. Hierbei wurden hauptsächlich moralische Gründe wie: "das Essen von Fleisch bedeutet, dass man Tiere töten muss" oder "das Essen von Fleisch erhöht das Leid und den Schmerz der Tiere" genannt (Mitte). Vegetarier mit dieser Motivation fassten Mitte und Kämpfe-Hargrave unter dem Begriff "moralische Vegetarier" zusammen. An zweiter Stelle folgten die "Gesundheitsvegetarier", bei welchen Gründe wie Krankheit, der Wunsch abzunehmen oder allgemein gesünder zu leben die Hauptrolle spielten (Mitte). Am dritthäufigsten wurden emotionale Gründe wie die Abneigung gegen den Geschmack von Fleisch oder Ekel bei dem Gedanken an die Herkunft des Fleisches genannt (Mitte). Daraus folgt, dass dem Gefühl des Ekels in der vegetarischen Lebensweise eine wichtige Rolle zugewiesen werden kann. Wiederrum empfinden "Fleischesser" generell keinen Ekel vor diesem Nahrungsmittel, sondern nur wenn es sich um das Fleisch von Tieren handelt, die nicht zum Verzehr "vorgesehen" sind (Joy 12-13). Das Ziel dieser Arbeit ist es zu klären, warum sich manche Menschen vor Fleisch ekeln und für manche der Konsum von Fleisch kein Problem darstellt.
