Cerramos el año 2020 inmerso en contrariedades políticas, electorales y una pandemia, lo cual no ha sido óbice para continuar el proyecto editorial Eka Magazine de Ego de Kaska Foundation. Los cimientos de este proyecto editorial se fortalecen en la medida en que se eleva la calidad de los colaboradores y la profundidad de los textos. Por alguna razón implícita, en una suerte de quiromancia, Eka ha ido logrando, a lo largo de diez números, agenciarse un espacio decoroso y una distinción literaria: se ha ido vislumbrando estéticamente por la marca y el sello editorial. El número once que a continuación comentamos, es un ejemplo cabal de esos resultados gracias al esfuerzo de su equipo editorial y colaboradores.
En esta ocasión, Eka propone un nuevo diseño en dos volúmenes. Para optimizar recursos de impresión y eficiencia económica, el dossier del artista invitado, el pintor Carlos Estévez, se imprime separado como Eka Magazine 11, vol. 2. Como ha escrito el crítico de arte Jill Deupi, Estévez es reconocido por crear obras fascinantes e inspiradoras en técnicas diversas que expresan y evocan las complejidades de la condición humana además de las verdades universales que le dan forma a nuestras vidas. Estas características y cualidades se ven reflejadas en la última serie de Estévez, Ciudades de la mente (2017-19), que a su vez analiza la necesidad humana fundamental de otorgarle estructura y sentido a nuestro entorno.
El grueso de la revista, el vol. 1, se regocija con el dossier de la galardonada escritora Daína Chaviano. De su obra el escritor Amir Valle ha dicho que su cubanía es, además, asombrosamente viva. Queda demostrada dicha cubanía en las incursiones que hace a la espiritualidad insular cubana, al pensamiento social popular y a los intríngulis de esa interculturalidad de las raíces que conforman lo cubano mediante sus novelas.
El resto de la revista se divide entre poesía, narrativa, ensayo, crítica, diálogo y reseña. Juan C. Mirabal evoca en tres poemas una suerte de escritura cuyo tema profundiza en la condición humana individual. El crítico de cine Roberto Madrigal deconstruye la utopía de Epicentro, un documental cubano. El arquitecto e historiador del arte Antonio R. Zúñiga versa sobre la restauración de La Habana y pone a juicio la antinomia entre Eusebio Leal y el cencrem. En esta misma dirección de restauración Francisco J. Arbolí expone La Habana de Leal y la real. Margarita García Alonso se explaya sobre la positividad y su engaño. El poeta y coleccionista de arte Ricardo Pau-Llosa nos habla de los arquetipos del arte cubano en la diáspora. El poeta y narrador Denis Fortún delita con un fragmento de su novela inédita Cueros contemporáneos y una entrevista al músico y cantante Marcelino Valdés. El poeta Jesús Barquet se explaya sobre un ensayo cuyo tema gira en torno a la censura e intolerancia de la izquierda en Estados Unidos. El pintor Humberto Castro establece un diálogo fraternal con R.U.N. Art Foundry, un taller de escultura para artistas no sólo cubanos sino internacional. El arquitecto Rafael Fornés refresca la memoria con imágenes de la arquitectura neo-clásica cienfueguera. El ensayista italiano Darío fertilio comenta en una excautiva reseña El libro rojo del marxismo cultural (Exodus, 2020).
