Der Frage, ob Persönlichkeit als valider Prädiktor für Arbeitsleistung gilt, sind bereits viele Wissenschaftler, vor allem in den letzten Jahrzehnten, nachgegangen. Noch bis Anfang der 90er Jahre waren Persönlichkeitsmessungen in der Personalauswahl ein selten angewandtes Instrument, da deren Nutzen als umstritten galt. Jedoch belegen neuere Studien, dass die Dimensionen der Persönlichkeit die Arbeitsleistung prognostizieren können. Deshalb untersucht dieses Literaturreview den Einfluss der Persönlichkeit auf die Arbeitsleistung. Dabei dient das Big-Five-Modell als Grundlage der Persönlichkeit. Gemessen werden die Big Five durch das NEO-PI oder NEO-FFI. Für die Arbeitsleistung werden subjektive und objektive Messkriterien genutzt. Anhand der empirischen Daten stellt sich heraus, dass die Faktoren Gewissenhaftigkeit und Emotionale Stabilität als gültige Prädiktoren der Arbeitsleistung gelten. Gewissenhaftigkeit zeigt sich sogar als valider Prädiktor für alle untersuchten Berufsgruppen. Die Dimensionen Verträglichkeit, Offenheit für Erfahrung und Extraversion bestimmen die Arbeitsleistung nur für einige Berufsgruppen. Allerdings beeinflussen die Big Five auch spezifische Leistungskriterien durch die die gesamte Arbeitsleistung definiert wird. Doch die Resultate der Studien werden sowohl von Befürworten, als auch Zweiflern begutachtet und kritisch hinterfragt. Des Weiteren stellen sich neben Persönlichkeitsmessungen, auch Intelligenztests als nützliche Tests für die Personalauswahl heraus.
