Hier sollen die folgenden Fragen geklärt werden: Ergeben sich Umstrukturierungen für den stationären Handel in der Textilbranche? Welche Entwicklungschancen und -nachteile resultieren hierdurch? Ergibt sich ggf. ein Mehrwert für den stationären Handel durch den E-Commerce? Im Laufe der letzten Jahre wurden elektronische Endgeräte wie Laptops, Smartphones, Tablets und das gesamte Internet stetig weiterentwickelt. Die Anzahl an Smartphonenutzern ist in den Jahren von 2012 bis 2015 stark um mehr als das Doppelte gestiegen. Mehr als 70 % der deutschsprachigen Bevölkerung nutzen regelmäßig das Smartphone oder Tablet für den Zugang in das Internet. Das Gerät wird hierbei nicht mehr lediglich zum Telefonieren oder E-Mail schreiben verwendet, sondern auch für die Suche nach Produktinformationen oder direkt zum Online-Kauf. Vor wenigen Jahrzehnten fand der Handel noch ausschließlich im stationären Einzelhandel statt. Heute hingegen kann der Konsument zwischen dem stationären Handel und der neuen Möglichkeit, dem Online-Handel, frei wählen. Durch den Online-Handel sind die Konsumenten nicht mehr örtlich und an Öffnungszeiten gebunden. Sie sind somit unabhängiger in ihrer Entscheidung, wann, wie und auf welche Art und Weise sie konsumieren. Oftmals beginnen Käufer aus dem stationären Handel ihre Recherche nach beispielsweise Produktinformationen bereits im Internet und kaufen diese später im stationären Handel. Dieser Prozess findet zum Beispiel häufig nebenbei im Stau, in der Schlange oder vor dem Fernseher statt.
