Durch ein Online-Experiment, gestützt auf das Solomon Vier-Gruppen-Design, wurde untersucht, ob Studierende, die während eines Fähigkeitstests falsch positives Feedback erhalten, eine höhere Selbstwirksamkeit berichten als jene ohne Feedback. Die Untersuchung zeigt die Bedeutung von Feedback im Bildungskontext und dessen Potenzial, die Selbstwahrnehmung der eigenen Fähigkeiten positiv zu modifizieren. Diese Erkenntnisse sind relevant für die Gestaltung von Lehrmethoden und die Förderung der studentischen Entwicklung. Der Übergang in ein Studium bringt viele Herausforderungen für Studierende und das Lehrpersonal mit sich. Im Rahmen eines Fernstudiums sind die Herausforderungen teilweise anderer Natur als in einem Präsenzstudium. Zum Beispiel entfällt das Zurechtfinden am neuen Studienort. Jedoch müssen die Studierenden in beiden Hochschulformen lernen, die Studienanforderungen zu bewältigen. Hierfür ist es notwendig, dass sich die Studierenden eine neue Identität als Hochschulstudenten schaffen. Zu dieser Identitätsbildung gehört, dass die Selbstwirksamkeit bzw. die Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung auf die neue Situation angepasst wird. Entsprechend Chemers, Hu und Garcia (2001) bedeutet Selbstwirksamkeit im Rahmen der Hochschulidentität, dass Vertrauen in die eigenen Fähigkeiten vorliegt. Eine hohe Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung ist demnach wichtig, um bspw. Entscheidungen in komplexen Umgebungen treffen zu können, wo große Mengen unterschiedlicher Informationen integriert, Feedback interpretiert, Wissen überprüft und überarbeitet sowie Auswahloptionen umgesetzt werden müssen. Entsprechend einer Arbeit von Hattie und Timperley (2007) kann Feedback die Selbstwirksamkeitserwartung
