Inhaltsangabe: Einleitung: Im Rahmen des BMBF-Projektes „Überwinterungsstrategien von Euphausia superba" soll die Nahrungsgrundlage des Krills in Zeiten limitierten Phytoplanktonangebots im Winter untersucht werden. Ob dabei eher Eisalgen oder hauptsächlich Copepoden im Vordergrund stehen, soll mittels Messung stabiler Isotope der Elemente Kohlenstoff und Stickstoff in den Geweben der Tiere ermittelt werden. Dabei wird angenommen, dass sich die Isotopenwerte der Eisalgen bzw. der Copepoden im Isotopensignal des Krills eindeutig widerspiegeln: die Eisalgen weisen auf Grund der umweltbedingten C02- Limitierung eine Anreicherung der schwereren Kohlenstoffisotope auf, während die Copepoden trophiebedingt durch schwerere Stickstoffisotopenwerte ausgezeichnet sind. Veränderungen im Isotopenverhältnis der stabilen Kohlenstoff- und Stickstoffisotope auf trophische Beziehungen und wechselnde Nahrungsspektren zurückzuführen, ist eine etablierte Methode zur Untersuchung planktischer Nahrungsnetze. Bei einer konstanten Anreicherung von 3,0- 4,0% o für Stickstoff und 0-1%o für Kohlenstoff pro Trophiestufe nimmt man an, dass sich die Isotopenwerte der Nahrung im Gewebe der Konsumenten abbilden. Diese Hypothese wird von vielen Freilanduntersuchungen gestützt. Neuere Laboruntersuchungen an Amphipoden und Mysidaceen von Macko et al. und Gorokhova & Hansson jedoch lassen vermuten, dass sich die Fraktionierung in Abhängigkeit der Nahrungsquelle ändert. Erste Isotopenanalysen des antarktischen Krills wiesen sehr heterogene Isotopensignaturen auf, die eine Zuordnung zu einer definierten Nahrungsquelle sehr unwahrscheinlich erscheinen lassen. Für die Interpretation der Felddaten sind deshalb einige fundamentale Erkenntnisse zur Isotopenfraktionierung bei Euphausiden nötig. Es blieb ungeklärt, welches Wachstum und welche turnover Raten notwendig sind, um einen Nahrungswechsel im Tiergewebe mittels stabiler Isotope nachweisen zu können.
