About the Book

Der letzte Salzburger Fursterzbischof Hieronymus Colloredo (1732-1812) fuhrte mit seinem Bruder, dem Reichsvizekanzler Gundaker Colloredo (1731-1807), eine Korrespondenz, von der insgesamt 655 Briefe uberliefert sind. Die meisten davon stammen aus den Jahren 1790 bis 1800. In der vorliegenden Edition sind die Briefe historisch-kritisch aufbereitet. Durch die enorme Themenvielfalt der Colloredo-Korrespondenz, ihre zeitliche Dauer und Dichte der Uberlieferung stellt sie ein bedeutendes Zeitdokument dar. Hieronymus Colloredo (1732-1812) war zwischen 1772 und 1803 Salzburgs Fursterzbischof. Mit seinem Bruder, dem Reichsvizekanzler Gundaker Collordo (1731-1807), fuhrte er eine Korrespondenz, ein Grossteil der insgesamt 655 erhaltenen Briefe stammt aus den Jahren 1790 bis 1800. Die Briefe wurden, wie zu dieser Zeit ublich, auf Franzosisch verfasst. In der vorliegenden Edition sind diese Briefe nun historisch-kritisch aufbereitet. Im ersten Teil, der Editionsvorbemerkung, werden die Protagonisten kurz vorgestellt. Anschliessend folgt der Editionsteil. Zusatzlich zur Transkription der franzosischen Briefe gibt es deutschsprachige Zusammenfassungen der Schreiben. In den Fussnoten erhalten die Leser/innen biografische Skizzen der genannten Personen und andere Erlauterungen. Schliesslich folgt im letzten Teil eine Auflistung von Verzeichnissen und Registern.Die Briefe konnen fur vielfaltige historische Fragestellungen herangezogen werden, vor allem, weil die Bruder nicht nur uber politische Themen, sondern beispielsweise auch uber familiare Angelegenheiten korrespondierten. Da sie Ende des 18. Jahrhunderts in einer Zeit des Krieges und des radikalen Gesellschaftsumbruchs lebten, schrieben sie auch uber ihre Gefuhle, Angste und Zukunftssorgen. Durch die enorme Themenvielfalt der Colloredo-Korrespondenz, ihre zeitliche Dauer und Dichte der Uberlieferung stellt sie ein bedeutendes Zeitdokument dar.
