JD Wombat lives in a Gum tree in the Blue Grey Valley's Eucalyptus wood. His adopted family includes Mr. and Mrs. Possum and his two possum sisters, Bindi and little Pooky Choo.
JD loves his family, but the room he shares with Bindi and Pooky Choo is getting crowded. Moving him into his own bedroom will give everyone more space-and cut down on sibling teasing and fights. So the Possum family decides to add an extension to the little home-much to Pooky Choo's confusion.
Pooky Choo isn't sure what an "eggs-ten-shone" is, or why eggs will help her brother get a new room, but if that's what the family needs, she's ready to help. While the other family members are busy digging, Pooky's in the kitchen, cooking up fun-and a great big mess!
Written in catchy, rhyming prose, with lovely watercolor illustrations, Eggs-ten-shone introduces infants and children to the wonderful animals who call Australia home. Come visit the Blue Grey Valley, and meet JD and the Possum family. If you're friendly, Pooky Choo might just offer to share some eggs!
About the Author: Author Bethany M. Gardner grew up in Australia, spending her childhood playing outside with siblings and friends. She remembers exploring national parks, playing with water dragons, taming wild possums and wallabies, feeding kookaburras and lorikeets, and engaging in epic battles using flower pods as ammunition. After a year of college-level training to become a primary school teacher, Gardner realized she'd rather use her writing skills to teach children about Australian wildlife and conservation efforts.
Illustrator Elizabeth E. Walsh was inspired by her daughter Bethany's curiosity about the word "extension" when she was a year old. The characters in the story are named after her own children: Joshua (JD Wombat), Belinda (Bindi), and Bethany (Pooky Choo). Walsh's background in teaching art and drama, combined with her love of Australia and Australian wildlife, spurs her passion to share the wonders of the continent through children's books.
