Die Arbeit gibt ein Überblick über die Elemente und Kompetenzen effektiver Führung und beinhaltet eine quantitative Untersuchung der Erwartungen der Mitarbeiter an eine Führungskraft. Die Welt und die Menschen verändern sich täglich, und mit jeder neuen Generation entstehen neue Einstellungen und Bedürfnisse. Aus diesem Grund stehen Führungskräfte in der Arbeitswelt ständig vor der Frage, wie sie jeder Generation von Arbeitnehmern am besten dienen und gleichzeitig mit den Bedürfnissen des Teams Schritt halten können. Für die jüngere Generation ist z. B. die Arbeitszeit nicht mehr so wichtig. Entscheidend sind Werte wie Motivation und Zufriedenheit. Andererseits gibt es aber auch die ältere Generation in den Unternehmen, für die Respekt und Wertschätzung im Vordergrund stehen. Um den unterschiedlichen Anforderungen gerecht zu werden, ist ein gutes und flexibles Führungshandeln erforderlich. Ebenfalls von großer Bedeutung für die Führung ist die Zunahme der von zu Hause aus arbeitenden Mitarbeiter. Ein Mangel an Kommunikation oder eine mangelnde Bindung der Mitarbeiter an das Unternehmen führen zu Unzufriedenheit. Die Unzufriedenheit führt zu Überlegungen, den Arbeitgeber zu wechseln, was wiederum die Fluktuation erhöht. Dies erfordert einen neuen Führungsansatz, um das Problem der Unzufriedenheit anzugehen und die Mitarbeiterbindung auch während der Führung auf Distanz zu stärken. Führungsverhalten scheint auf den ersten Blick relativ selbsterklärend zu sein, wird aber in der heutigen Zeit unterschiedlich interpretiert. Einerseits bedeutet Führen ein klares Beobachten, Lenken und Eingreifen durch eine Führungskraft.
