Da es keine Metaanalyse gibt, die sich speziell mit dem Aspekt des Lernens im Online-Peer-Assessment auseinandersetzt, soll mit dieser Arbeit ein erster Schritt gemacht und eine bestehende Forschungslücke geschlossen werden. Bereits Hattie und Timperley haben festgestellt, dass das Feedback einen starken Einfluss auf das Lernen und die Leistung hat. Dieser Einfluss kann sowohl positiv als auch negativ sein. Der Effekt von Feedback auf das Lernen wurde in zahlreichen Beiträgen thematisiert und ist wichtig im Peer-Assessment. Das Peer-Assessment ist eine Methode, in der Lernende die Rolle des Lehrenden annehmen und sich gegenseitig, unter Einbezug von Kriterien, Feedback geben. Topping hat bereits betont, dass die Qualität der Feedback- Kommentare von Lernenden nicht vergleichbar ist mit denen der Lehrenden. Jedoch wird dieser Mangel durch eine häufige, direkte und umfangreiche Durchführung ausgeglichen. In einer Metaanalyse über das Peer-Assessment von Falchikov und Goldfinch wurden erstmals Vergleiche zwischen den Bewertungen von Lernenden mit denen der Lehrenden hergestellt. Mit der zunehmenden Digitalisierung im Bildungsbereich wird zur Unterstützung von Peer-Assessment Technologie verwendet. Dadurch ergeben sich einige Vorteile für Lehrerende und Lernende. Um das sogenannte Online- Peer-Assessment zu untersuchen, wurde im Jahr 2016 die Metaanalyse von Falchikov und Goldfinch unter Einbezug von Internettechnologie wiederholt. Obwohl das Feedback einen starken Einfluss auf das Lernen hat, steht dieser Aspekt in beiden Metaanalysen im Hintergrund. Der Einsatz von neueren Technologien beim Lernen und ihre Auswirkungen ist ein Forschungsgebiet, dass noch nicht umfassend untersucht wurde.
