About the Book

It's 1929. Germany has its eyes on Afghanistan's Khaibar Pass and is attempting to take advantage of local unrest by sponsoring hundreds of mercenaries posing as a religious cult... ...and they are known as The Shadow Men of God. During this time of civil wars in Afghanistan, Mark "Buzz" Kramer is a circus stunt flier. When he loses his employment after a circus fire, he is offered employment in Afghanistan by Harry Whitecliff, a rogue British agent. While traveling on the train toward Peshawar, he meets and befriends the beautiful and charming American girl, Kimberly Smith. It's there that Buzz shares deep secrets about himself, his work, and the mystery of three gold crosses-one which he now wears around his neck. But, when the train arrives at the station, the two of them become separated and Buzz is left with only one disturbing thought... ...he may never see her again. Buzz's quick thinking, however, saves the possibility of a future relationship when he leaves a note and a small memento for Kim with the train's porter-one of the gold crosses. Buzz arrives in Peshawar and joins Harry along with a rebel Afghani tribal leader; and together they rescue a group of sixteen young-teenage girls from being sold into slavery. Joining them is a French Foreign Legionnaire, a Russian Cossack, and a soldier-priest to thwart the plans of a psychotic German colonel and his five-hundred-man-strong force of bloodthirsty mercenaries to gain control of the Khaibar Pass. A cruel, psychopathic killer-Col. Von Schroeden-is discovered to be in the area. He has taken Kim, her aunt and uncle, and several others hostage at an old mission. Why is he here, and what is his role with The Shadow Men of God? With only the British bi-plane, the "Bee," a converted steam roller, exploding inner tubes, a couple of five-barreled shotguns, and a phantom army, they conduct the battle using the tactics and routines of a three-ring circus. Buzz and Kimberly's romance culminates in a mountaintop proposal in the midst of a desperate battle. The mystery of three strange gold crosses is revealed and their connection to a lost Spanish treasure, hostages, rescues, and a secret tunnel in an ancient graveyard.
