About the Book

This series is a venture to define and redefine the educational scenario in India. It is a testimony to the bubbling thought process going on in the minds of Indian academicians. Attempts have been made to identify areas of problems and stress in the Indian education scene and to provide viable solutions. An endeavour has been made to place Indian education in the global perspective. The need for the evaluation and its modus operandi has also been discussed. Ethics, values and missing dimensions of our education system have been highlighted. India is heading towards more and more openness in economic activities as also its education system. As a democratic nation, critical enquiry into its prevalent educational practices is necessary. Our methods of knowledge management, satisfaction of the students, our national response to global challenges in education, the fast growing area of distance education and the challenges that this growth poses and elements of transparency in the system must be scrutinized. There are pockets of resentment as well as areas that need special attention. Completely apolitical in its approach, the current series is a detailed study of different facets of India’s education system. Education in India is a very vast phenomenon. All hues and colours are visible in this diverse panorama. The present volume points out areas that need improvement. Sincere suggestions in the form of concrete plans have been presented by serious scholars from all over the country. The volume focuses on functioning of education and how it can be improved. All components of education, namely students, teachers, methodology, pedagogy, infrastructure, modes of education and approach have been discussed in detail. The volume, like the whole series is highly useful for scholars of education as well as all those interested in the improvement of system and standard of education in India.
