Inhaltsangabe: Gang der Untersuchung: Mit meiner Diplomarbeit - E-Business - eine strategische Herausforderung für Unternehmen - möchte ich ein Modell vorstellen, das den Einsatz des Internet in Unternehmen beschreibt. Dieses Modell wird entlang der Wertschöpfungskette entwickelt und zeigt, wie das Internet ganzheitlich im Unternehmen eingesetzt werden kann. Grob gegliedert besteht die vorliegende Diplomarbeit aus zwei Bereichen. Im ersten Bereich (Kapitel A und B) geht es um die Entstehung der Internet-Ökonomie und die Schaffung eines Verständnisses für diese. Es handelt sich dabei um bereits bestehende Tatsachen und Tendenzen, die deutlich machen, wie sich die wirtschaftliche Realität ändert. In Kapitel A wird dabei die Umweltsituation beleuchtet, in der sich Unternehmen heute behaupten müssen. Hierbei sollen vor allem die neuen Kräfte dargestellt werden, die durch die weltweite Vernetzung entstanden sind und wesentlich zur Verschärfung des Wettbewerbs beigetragen haben. Des weiteren werden dabei grundsätzliche ökonomische Regeln in Frage gestellt. In Kapitel B soll ein Verständnis für die digitale Welt geschaffen werden. Dies geschieht durch die Darstellung der Entwicklung zu einer Internet-Ökonomie. Dabei lassen sich technologische und wirtschaftliche Einflußfaktoren identifizieren, die das Internet zu einem neuen Marktplatz heranwachsen gelassen haben. Damit hat das Internet für die kommerzielle Nutzung eine neue Bedeutung - Unternehmen müssen nun das Internet verstehen und dessen Möglichkeiten umfassend nutzen. Aus dem Verständnis für die neuen ökonomischen Regeln wird im zweiten Bereich (Kapitel C bis E) darauf eingegangen, wie Unternehmen auf diese veränderten wirtschaftlichen Bedingungen reagieren können. Dabei liegt der Kern auf der Entwicklung einer sinnvollen Vorgehensweise beim Einsatz des Internet im Unternehmen.
