The annual 24-hour Baker to Vegas run is a time of competition and camaraderie for Law Enforcement agencies from around the world, usually, but not this night. The airwaves crackle with amateur radio and police emergency communications as runners lay injured and police chase-cars are wrapped around trees at a switchback on the mountain road outside of Pahrump Nevada. The apparent accident is really the first step in a Chicago hoodlum's audacious scheme to crack into the lucrative Orange County California construction industry. He and his henchmen will stop at nothing including bribery and murder to achieve their goals. All goes as planned and his company wins an ill-gotten multimillion dollar contract for the concrete work for a major addition to the local hospital. Then, a botched attempt to be rid of a suspicious and troublesome inspector draws together an unlikely team of investigators. A shroud of mystery hangs over the hospital as Frank Alisone lays in a coma after a 30-foot fall from a scaffold. His grandson Tony, a high school senior and star of the football team, joins forces with the President of the Computer Club and a rookie cop to investigate Grandfather's "accident." They uncover a web of corruption that infects the highest levels of city government, the police, and the architectural firm responsible for the addition to the hospital. All bets are off as the danger to Tony and his friends grows in a crescendo of violence towards a dramatic conclusion. About the Author: Richard Yocom lives in Sun Lakes Arizona with his wife Pamela and their two dogs, Buddy and Peanut. Now retired, he spent most of his professional career in the field of Information Systems Consulting. Richard is a licensed Amateur Radio Operator and was active in the Newport Beach Police Department's RACES Unit, a volunteer organization that provides communications support in times of emergency. He is an avid reader of action/adventure novels by such authors as Tom Clancy, Robert Ludlum, and Ken Follett. After graduating from San Jose State University in 1961, Richard became a pioneer in the implementation of large business computer applications for organizations such as Douglas Aircraft Company, and The California Water Project. In 1995 he received a heart transplant at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles.
