Le citazioni di artisti famosi, pertinenti il tema trattato nelle composizioni, accentuano e sottolineano l'incisività della poesia; inoltre rimandano a un sapere che predilige l'entusiasmo per la curiosità. Quella di Mistretta è un'atmosfera eterea, sognatrice, come ad esempio nella composizione "Un'isola", con i libri, le pagine, le parole che formano un mondo racchiuso, sospeso in attesa dell'attimo ispirante. Nonostante una terminologia legata ai concetti classici del fare poesia, il linguaggio di Mistretta non cade nella monotonia poetica a tutti i costi, e si rinnova inserendo parole chiave della poesia in contesti diversi. Seguendo oltre, infatti, le parole diventano gabbiani sul mare tra pensieri e ricordi di silenzi. "E ora ho capito: / ho chiuso con i sogni, / gli amori e le illusioni, / è rimasta la follia / dell'esserci ogni giorno, / a rivivere una sola passione, / prima della fine del tempo", con la bella citazione di Tiziano Terzani sulla comunicazione attraverso il silenzio. E come il silenzio c'è l'anelito all'infinito, non quello leopardiano nascosto dietro una siepe, ma un infinito aperto a vista d'occhio, in fondo alla superficie del mare, che rimane davanti alla vista della mente che vorrebbe contenerlo. Fino alla fine, fino all'"Ultimo silenzio", nonostante l'anima sia lacerata, filo-spinata ogni sera da un abito di nube nera. Unica via di fuga una morte figurata nel mare di fronte all'Etna dove la luna si sparpaglia "in pezzi di limoni / nei giacigli dei giardini" a parte il sentimento interiore che sgorga in superfice attraverso la scrittura, si può azzardare un giudizio sincero sul valore della bellezza, che può anche uccidere. Così come nella frase di Giuseppe Ungaretti riportata in calce alla composizione "Assassinato dal mare" "Col mare / mi son fatto / una bara / di freschezza". .. "la vita ci attraversa", volenti o nolenti, è un fatto che dobbiamo accettare. Se possibile dovremmo abbellire la vita con dei versi, esistere attraverso la "follia dei sogni" e, come dice Einstein, liberandosi dell'io. Quindi non c'è da preoccuparsi, del resto siamo sotto un "Cielo d'autunno" perché "È solo la fine". Nient'altro. E su tutte le poesie, tutta la critica possibile rimane un concetto fondamentale della vita come miracolo di bene e di incanto: l'amore non fa morire.
