About the Book

ENGLISH DESCRIPTION

There is a difficult space between short story and novel that can hardly be named. With these three stories, Jorge Volpi shows that he is one of the masters of this ambiguous genre of "long story."
Between a novel and a short story there is a space that is difficult to name; vague, hybrid. Jorge Volpi has called it "mid-range," a genre that, in the words of the author, exceeds the limits of a short story while maintaining a drastic concentration of narrative material while lacking the limits of a novel. This volume compiles three mid-range tales: "Despite the Dark Silence", "Days of Wrath" and "The Apocalypse Game" preceded by the essay "Praise For the Mid-Range" in which Volpi maps out this unique genre that combines the "patience of a novelist with the agility of a storyteller."
"A revealing, emblematic volume." -Arturo García Ramos, ABC
