About the Book

COMPETITION IS THE DRIVE-THE STIMULUS-THAT CAUSES MAN TO USE ALL OF HIS PHYSICAL, MENTAL, EMOTIONAL, ETHICAL, AND MORAL ABILITIES TO TRY TO OVERCOME LIFE'S CHALLENGES. Man's will and need to compete is a human drive-just as important as the drives of survival and self preservation, hunger and thirst, procreation and reproduction, and security. If we don't compete in all areas of our lives, we won't survive physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Our need and will to compete goes to the heart of everything we do in life. Competition is the catalyst that unleashes all of our energies (physical, mental, emotional, ethical and moral) to face life's challenges. Today, too many people are "soft" and do not want to subject themselves to the risks of competing. It is hoped that by understanding the concepts of competition, all people, young and old alike, will be able to strive for a better and more fulfilling life for the benefit of themselves, their communities, and our country. This book is written in such a way that people as young as 12 years old could read, understand, and begin to compete. Likewise, young adults, mid-aged persons, and senior citizens can benefit from the thoughts contained in this book. All should read and begin to compete.
About the Author: Tom Curry is married and a father of two grown married children who are, in turn, growing their own families and adding to Tom's collection of "I heart Grandpa" coffee mugs. After graduating from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology with a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, he achieved Registration as a Professional Engineer in the State of Indiana and then spent 36 years with a successful engineering firm in Indianapolis. Tom also served as an officer in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and was awarded a Bronze Star for his service in Vietnam. Tom grew up during a time when every garage had a hoop and he has always been passionate about athletic competition; participating in sports throughout high school and college. As an adult, he has coached many sports at various levels as a way of passing along the same ethical, competitive spirit that he was taught by his own coaches and which has guided his life. After retiring from the business world in 2012, Tom now spends his time finding new adventures with his "butter" half, Carla; reading, writing and publishing books; coming up with awful puns; and earning those coffee mugs!
