Pierre Sotér has written more than 1000 sonnets. "Dripping Fronds" is a selection of his best sonnets, which invites the reader to reflect on our living environment and common future. The book is organized in three sections: Dawn, Listen and The Ground. The best way to feel the book is to read some poems:
Cover poem, "Dripping Fronds"
Dew is still dripping from the fractal fronds of fern
which coat the ground with layers of lovely life,
in smaller parts worlds replicating bliss and strife
from vaster roots that spread eternity and turn.
Sun is still dripping from the giant fronds of palms
while the sky whispers messages from primal times,
cosmic seeds that are still falling on earthly shrines
slowly carving life's history on nature's psalms.
And time is dripping from the fronds of mystery,
shaking our minds while all the bodies wither,
waiting for their souls, for words, from a new bidder,
written with the light of some other galaxy.
While fronds are drying and we drain all Earth's blood,
nature ponders, and determines, next drought or flood.
Heaven & Earth
It is raining, Heaven is touching Earth
and with light and thunder is telling it:
"I love you, and our love will give birth
to life, which I'll cherish, in you will beat."
It is night, Heaven is embracing Earth,
Moon's silver light is softly kissing it,
and all cosmic diamonds have been sent forth
and show how the passion of life was lit.
It is day, Heaven is dancing with Earth,
the Sun's warm golden rays are guiding it,
and its skin is learning of strife and mirth
under the pull and push of love and wit.
On the face of Earth the rain is falling
from Heaven, and galaxies are calling.
Gloom & Bloom
In the middle of the darkest gloom,
heedless and dumb, some blessing tears
will get new buds, new hopes to bloom,
and will reset the course of years.
Even caught in snares, by strokes of doom,
some will never hide their scorn of time,
they too must die, but in this turning room
will choose their living and passing rhyme.
Eventually, sublime and awesome,
love-brazened hearts and conquered fears,
where giants sleep and braves emblossom,
lay down their arms and God appears.
And God will command Darwin, again,
to teach heaven's laws to stubborn men.
