Suzanne Beauchesne, a wealthy French entrepreneur, sees a younger woman seated at the table of a pavement café, close to the Gare du Nord railway station in Paris. About the Author: This is Greg Thompson's first novel. He was born in Kent, England, in 1945, in the last months of the Second World War. Most of his working career was spent carrying out operational and management research for the police service. He was fortunate to work with several of the country's most innovative senior officers at the forefront of policing advances in the last years of the twentieth century. In more recent times, supporting the work of the People's Trust for Endangered Species, he has monitored the use of nest boxes by rare hazel dormice, in ancient woodland close to his home. In association with Kent Mammal Group and the Royal Society for the Protection of Birds, he has developed an interest in the lifestyles of brown hares living on what may be Europe's biggest shingle desert, at Dungeness, on the south coast of Kent. He has travelled worldwide in pursuit of his interest in wildlife, especially elephants and other mammals. He and his wife Wendy have a liking for long distance overland travel and independently planned expeditions in savannah landscapes and some of the world's most inhospitable deserts. They divide their home time between their house in Kent and the barn they have converted in the Auvergne, in the south of France.
