What if dreams could be made to order?
In the world created by psychiatrist and author Han Soo Lee, MD, people can customize their dreams by answering a very detailed computerized questionnaire. Through the wonders of nanotechnology, these answers are embedded in a coin-sized wafer that holds the dream-producing program, which is worn as a skin patch on the person's temple.
The widget's inventor, Dr. Jupitren, is a highly respected professor of psychiatry and a dream and sleep specialist. He administers the wafers to clients of Acmeon Lab who are suffering from a variety of anxiety- and sleep-related disorders. But despite his noble intentions, there are those who wish to use his invention as a means of control.
Dream Wafer revolves around the efforts of the good doctor, along with his niece, Helen, who runs the lab, Steve, a tech-savvy client who is attracted to Helen, and precinct Sergeant Bill Warren, to discover who is breaching the wafer program's security measures and to outmaneuver their rivals in a game of high-stakes cat and mouse.
Along the way, the story explores the fascinating nature of dreams and poses titillating questions about the future of such technology.
About the Author: Han Soo Lee, MD, has dealt with many dreams of his clients throughout over four decades of psychiatric practice. He is a graduate of the Seoul National University Medical School in South Korea and was trained as a child and adult psychiatrist at New York University Bellevue Medical Center. He is also a graduate of the Karen Horney's American Institute for Psychoanalysis in New York City. He is now retired and lives with his wife in Long Island, New York.
In his psychiatry practice, Lee observed the various misconceptions people have about dreams, and for a long time, he wanted to impart some basic facts about dreams by way of a fictional story. This book teaches readers about dreams and explores the question of whether dreams be made to order by means of science.
