Fifteen-year-old Ahti is drawn away from his life in London by Quamar, a mysterious stranger who appears in his dream to ask for help. Ahti finds himself in Ras'Qah - an alternate reality existing side by side with Earth. He learns that its islands contain dreamzones which attract and shape the subconscious thoughts and dreams of Earth's inhabitants. Ahti discovers how people on Earth had once, many tens of thousands of years ago, been able to communicate directly with, and channel the energy from, the dreamzones on Ras'Qah. Using this knowledge, they had gained mastery of engineering, astronomy, architecture, farming, navigation and art, building a civilization powered by energy derived from their pyramids. That once-great civilisation was eventually destroyed by greed, which had driven them to fight for increasing control of the ultimate source of their power. In the centuries of climatic ruin and decline that followed, the ancient civilisation was reduced to a hand-to-mouth existence and the vast majority lost all knowledge of the dreamzones and the technology that had once existed.Now, after a long period of peace, the General, leader of the Northern Isles of Ras'Qah, is planning to open the doorway to allow his forces to cross into Earth. The Southerners fear that opening the doorway at the present time is premature, and likely to result in the deaths of hundreds of thousands and possibly millions on Earth. Ahti is asked to help stop the General, which he agrees to. Ahti and Quamar set out on a voyage to the North, across the treacherous seas, to investigate strange occurrences on the island of Raqqal. But the General is not about to be so easily cheated out of the opportunity to unite the Earth and Ras'Qah, and engages his right-hand man, the Gruff Menor, along with his vast armies, to help him stop Ahti and the Southerners. Only too happy to be taken into his confidence, the ambitious Gruff Menor is soon embroiled in a series of mysteries. Just what is the secret about this boy who has been brought to Ras'Qah and whom the General wants kidnapped at all costs, will they truly be able to control the terrifying monsters that are being brought to life from the depths of Raqqal's dreamzone, and why has the General taken such drastic measures to imprison and lock away the mysterious Abhusuwella Tana, who it transpires is carrying his child?In the current age of climate change rebellion and disillusionment with economic, religious and political systems, this novel paints a picture of what people's true potential could be. The story is both a warning of the disaster that may lie ahead, and a reminder of the great feats that have, and could yet be, achieved by each one of us.
