About the Book

Cette célèbre histoire a été conçue par l'écrivain irlandais Bram Stoker après ses conversations avec un savant hongrois où il a découvert le monarque sanguinaire Vlad Dracula. Son portrait de ce vampire et la majesté avec laquelle l'histoire a été écrite ont fait de lui le vampire le plus célèbre du monde.

La narration se déroule dans deux endroits différents, entre l'Angleterre et la Transylvanie en 1890. L'histoire commence lorsque Jonathan Harker, qui est un jeune avocat, doit déménager au domicile du comte Dracula en Transylvanie au profit de son patron pour fournir des services juridiques accompagnement lors d'une négociation immobilière. Harker commence à être influencé par Dracula et est attaqué par des sirènes vampires, ce qui le fait à peine sortir du château vivant.
Dracula se dirige maintenant vers Londres en emportant avec lui 50 cercueils remplis de terre de Transylvanie dont il a besoin pour rester en vie et retrouver ses forces. En cours de route, il tue tout l'équipage du navire qui le transporte à l'exception du capitaine jusqu'à ce qu'il atteigne sa destination.
Une fois à Londres, il devient obsédé par Lucy qui a trois prétendants. Dracula la poursuit sans cesse, lui rendant visite tous les soirs. Lucy commence à somnoler, à se perdre et à avoir l'air malade. Van Helsing conclut que ce qui arrive à Lucy est la responsabilité de Dracula et a l'idée claire que c'est un vampire qui boit le sang de la fille. Il fait tout ce qu'il peut pour la maintenir en vie, notamment en lui prescrivant des transfusions sanguines et en portant des crucifix et des colliers à l'ail pour tenter de conjurer le comte.

Un jour, Lucy et sa mère sont attaquées par un étrange loup et meurent toutes les deux. Van Helsing essaie d'empêcher Lucy de devenir un vampire en plaçant un crucifix dans sa bouche mais un serviteur de Dracula le vole. Une fois que cela se produit, une femme qui terrorise les enfants commence à être vue la nuit et Van Helsing sait que c'est Lucy contrôlée par Dracula. Pour cela, les trois prétendants la localisent et lui enfoncent un pieu dans le coeur et s'assurent qu'elle ne ressuscite pas d'entre les morts.
Le comte Dracula tourne son attention sur Mina lorsqu'il découvre que des hommes ont détruit la plupart de ses cercueils avec de la saleté, le gardant en sécurité à Londres. Il donne à Mina son sang qui fait d'elle, bien que pas entièrement, un vampire. Les hommes parviennent à découvrir que Mina peut leur dire où se cache le comte et l'utiliser pour le retrouver en Transylvanie.
Une fois sur place, les hommes parviennent à attaquer le comte Dracula et avec lui, ils parviennent à le tuer une fois pour toutes. Mina récupère et épouse son fiancé.
