About the Book

WHEN THE DOUGH DOESN'T RISE: SELF HELP CONFESSIONS OF A CHRISTIAN ENTREPRENEUR is the honest, no-nonsense book from a successful businessman who sets out to tell the hard truth about what it means to succeed and fail in business, regardless of how perfectly you lay out your business plan. Scott Cloud tells his story of success owning and operating seven thriving businesses in trucking and agriculture. Driven to prosper greater than his father who had gone bankrupt before his eyes, Scott and his wife launch into a large scale poultry operation on their farm. On the first day of operation, his wife, Roxanne, suddenly fell ill. As a business team, he and his wife followed their plan, did the due diligence and adhered to their perceived recipe for success, but what Scott couldn't foresee was his spouse and business partner being struck down by an illness that would debilitate her for the rest of her life. This account is just one instance of the "dough" not rising in the life of a dedicated Christian entrepreneur and his family. Using illustrative stories born from a simple up-bringing on a Mid-western pig farm, "When the Dough Doesn't Rise" invites readers on a true-life journey that attempts to offer enlightened answers to some of life's toughest questions. The reader learns about a young man who watches his father struggle for success but never achieve it. Scott uses that perceived failure to motivate himself onto and up the ladder of great financial success. As his journey continues, the reader feels the joy of winning and the pain of great loss as Scott achieves financial success, but then tragically loses his brother along the way. The readers of this book explore what it means to follow the recipe of life and yet experience the "dough" not rising in his or her life. Readers beware: the authors, Scott Cloud and Darrel Campbell, attempt to offer answers from the Bible as well as practical life experiences that provide hope and inspiration -- NOT easy, pat answers that provide little consolation or motivation.
About the Author: SCOTT CLOUD and DARREL CAMPBELL, authors of WHEN THE DOUGH DOESN'T RISE: SELF-HELP CONFESSIONS OF A CHRISTIAN ENTREPRENEUR, grew up in the same small town and attended the same high school. Scott was raised on a family hog farm and attributes much of his success to the hard work required of him as a youth. Scott's parents were casualties of a poor farm economy in the 80's and were forced to declare bankruptcy during his childhood. Scott perservered earning a degree in Agricultural Economics from the University of Missouri. He worked for Federal Land Bank of St. Louis, the Farm Credit System and then for Mercantile Bank as an Agricultural Commercial Lender where he stressed compassion for hard-working people who experienced hard times beyond their control. While in banking, Scott and his wife embarked on their first business venture purchasing an 80 acre farm and constructing a turkey operation. Roxanne was diagnosed with systemic Lupus and Rheumatoid arthritis dealing them their first blow. Scott changed careers becoming the CFO for Star Transport Co; a liquid-bulk trucking company. In five years Scott developed and owned seven successful companies operating at revenue of over $12 million per year. Over the past 20 years, Scott has traveled the U.S. and Mexico speaking in churches and Christian business conferences encouraging business owners to use their business as platforms for evangelism. Scott often says, "Entrepreneurs are more than willing to pound their chest about their successes, but very few want to get humble and talk about their struggles." Scott's many successes and disappointments in business uniquely prepared him to write his first book, "When the Dough Doesn't Rise - Self Help Confessions of a Christian Entrepreneur." Co-Author, DARREL CAMPBELL, has worked in the entertainment and arts industry for over 30 years. After 7 years as a professional actor in NYC, Darrel became a professional TV and film writer in Hollywood and has written for ABC, CBS, NBC, DISNEY and WARNER BROTHERS including DAYS OF OUR LIVES, CAROL & COMPANY (Carol Burnett), HOME IMPROVEMENT (Tim Allen), DISNEY'S LION KING: TIMON AND PUMBAA and TOM AND JERRY for WARNER BROTHERS ANIMATION. Darrel Co-starred in the soap opera, ANOTHER LIFE, produced and wrote the films REDEMPTION OF THE GHOST, THE PISTOL and LAST OUNCE OF COURAGE - his film directorial debut. Darrel is the author of the best-selling book, HEIR TO A DREAM, a Gold Medallion Book Award winner.
