About the Book

"Stephanie move!" someone screams. "Call 911!" the office manager yelled to her. Mary ran past her and out the door. Dennis stood near the door, speaking to the security guard. Someone close to her called for help on a cell phone. He had one hand on Stephanie's shoulder and the other held the phone. She heard him speaking. "Yes, he's breathing. There's a large amount of blood loss though. I'm not sure he can move." And then he turned to Stephanie and said, "They're on their way. It will be OK." As if the call changed everything, Stephanie walked out of the building, down the steps, to the cracked sidewalk and into the street. The crowd was all looking at her as she pushed through everyone with tears furiously falling. She fell down to her knees. Then put her head on top of his chest. "Please don't go. Please open your eyes. Squeeze my hand. Something! I'm sorry. This is my fault." She intertwined his fingers with hers, saying a prayer that he would be alright. Stephanie has finally put her life back together until the day a curve ball is thrown her way. Will she choose moving forward or standing still?
About the Author: JoAnn Scanlon was born in Providence, Rhode Island, on March 19, 1973. As the youngest of four children, she watched her father work two jobs and her mother raise the household as a stay-at-home parent until JoAnn reached her middle-school years. In her own words, "We may not have been from a wealthy family, but we were rich in family love." JoAnn went to Classical High School in Providence, Rhode Island, and, a few weeks after graduation, began working at her first full-time job. She ended up staying there and attending university night classes over a seven-year period. In 1997, she met her husband, Kevin Scanlon, and, a year later, transitioned careers and pursued a position in customer service. After a short period, JoAnn was promoted to customer service manager and later went on to lead multiple teams within the service industry. These days, JoAnn has embraced yet another career change as manager of communications. In 2000, JoAnn and Kevin married. In 2005, after numerous attempts to start a family, they welcomed their beautiful son, Tyler. In 2007, against even more odds, the Scanlons gave birth to a second boy, Nicolas. In JoAnn's words, "Family life is the most important thing to us. My dream was to be a stay-at-home mom, but I knew that financially, we both needed to work to provide our boys a wonderful childhood." Throughout the years, JoAnn found herself dreaming up ideas for novels of all genres: drama, suspense, mystery, and romance. "I am definitely a daydreamer," she states. "There were times that I would actually daydream the oh-my-God moments of a book and would have tears rolling down my face because of something that happened in the book." After years of creating these fictional stories in her imagination, JoAnn decided to pursue her true passion: writing. Why couldn't it be done? Today, JoAnn wants to instill this same value of exploration in her children. "I want to teach my boys that you can try anything. If you break down any goal into a list of tasks, it will turn into an achievable goal. Start off by handling the smaller tasks and move on to the larger items. 'Do or do not...there is no try.'-Jedi Master Yoda."
