About the Book

Does It Look and Sound Like Jesus? is a collection of 25 favorite sermons which focus on the common denominator of Christian faith - the life and teachings of Jesus, and what God has done in and through him - and challenges the reader to consider one simple yet decisive question when making important life decisions: Does it look and sound like Jesus? The collection was compiled in celebration of Big Canoe Chapel's thirtieth anniversary. As pastor of this diverse and growing multi-denominational congregation in north Georgia, the author has led its members, through these sermons, to focus on the center of their shared traditions while still acknowledging and embracing their differences. The sermons span the holiest days of the liturgical calendar, emphasizing relationships with God, with ourselves, and with others, prompting readers to consider what God has done for us in Jesus and what must be the faithful response of 21st century disciples.
About the Author: James R. McCormick is Senior Pastor of Big Canoe Chapel, a multi-denominational congregation in the mountains of North Georgia. Dr. McCormick has been preaching for over fifty years, serving congregations in Georgia, Mississippi, Arizona and California. He has earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Millsaps College in Jackson, Mississippi, a Master of Divinity degree from Candler School of Theology, Emory University, in Atlanta, Georgia, and a Doctor of Religion degree from the School of Theology at Claremont, in Claremont, California. Dr. McCormick has served as an Adjunct Professor both at Fuller Theological Seminary and at the School of Theology at Claremont. His previously published books are Welcome Home, Tell It Like It Can Be and Marriage Is For Adults. Dr. McCormick celebrated fifty years of marriage to Patricia Chunn McCormick in May, 2007. They have two children, James Mark McCormick of Alanta, Georgia and Lynn McCormick Searfoss of Big Canoe, Georgia.
