Sin embargo, el autor de La doble vida de Agustín Machado huye en todo momento de ambos peligros cuando se trata de personajes que ocupan cargos de responsabilidad gubernamental y además, militan en el Partido Comunista de Cuba, único legal en la isla y por tanto, rector de todo poder como fuerza constitucional dirigente del estado.El relato llega al lector por mediación de un narrador-testigo, persona cercana a Agustín Machado que por tanto, puede en determinados momentos comportarse como cuasi-omnisciente, revelando posibles secretos del personaje principal aunque las más de las veces actúa de manera objetiva, dejándole al lector la iniciativa para arribar a conclusiones por sí mismo.Este narrador comienza presentándose con la siguiente declaración: "Cuando comienza esta historia, era yo el primer secretario del núcleo del Partido Comunista en la fábrica de implementos agrícolas de Punta Martinas, ciudad costera al norte del oriente cubano caracterizada por su extrema limpieza y la respetuosidad de los ciudadanos en sus calles. Aunque además ocupaba un cargo administrativo, apenas tenía tiempo para ocuparme de mis obligaciones laborales, imbuido como estaba siempre en las tareas partidistas. Y es precisamente esta ocupación constante en las actividades políticas la que me brindó el material necesario para adentrarme en la vida de Agustín Machado".A partir de este instante, queda el camino desbrozado para que este narrador-personaje convierta al lector en confidente, como si estuviese revelándole secretos a un amigo de confianza hasta llegar al sorpresivo desenlace.Empleando algunas técnicas del policíaco aunque sin serlo, La doble vida de Agustín Machado acercará al lector a la realidad de la isla de Cuba muy poco conocida por los extranjeros que la visitan y para nada publicitada en la prensa oficial.Sin dejar de ser ficción, este relato encaja perfectamente en la serie que el autor está dando a conocer por vez primera en Amazon, con el sugerente título de FICCIONES REALISTAS DE CUBA, de la cual constituye el segundo número de la serie.Véase un breve fragmento de muestra, en la parte del relato en la cual el narrador-testigo es cuestionado por el apoyo que le brinda a Agustín Machado: "Adolorido, tomé una decisión: le exigiría a Agustín Machado que renunciara a sus cargos un tanto hipotéticos pues según la plantilla laboral continuaba siendo laboratorista, entregara el automóvil y se retirara de nuevo a un rincón de la fábrica. También le pondría como condición para salvar su militancia que dejáramos de tratarnos con la intimidad habitual. Y algo que desde luego no sabía Marvilia: mi indulgencia de no destruirlo era a cambio de que nadie supiera de mis relaciones con Arminda".El lector no podrá abandonar la lectura una vez iniciada hasta tanto descubra por sí mismo las intrigas que teje el narrador en una obra que a pesar de abordar en el terreno de la ficción un drama que en algunas zonas cobra elementos de los buenos policiacos.
