About the Book

This is an adult coloring book as well as an interesting yet true story about resilience. This book has many pages suitable to be colored or doodled upon by adults. The book also introduces two young Roses, that grew to be strong and beautiful, despite their less than favorable living environment. Lessons taught by their mother, a Los Angeles Unified School District teacher from St. Lucia, West Indies; helped the girls navigate their interesting childhoods. This book shares these lessons with the reader. The Rose Sisters, Dr. Alexandra Melanie Rose and Arlene Aretha Taylor Rose MSN, CCRN, Board Certified Family Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner are two first generation Americans. These Roses, are magical black girls who grew up at The Rose Yarde. In 2017, the Rose sisters opened The Rose Yarde, Integrative Practice for Primary and Behavioral Health, A Nursing Professional Corporation in Granada Hills, California. This book tells the true story of how The Rose Yarde, came to be a place for healthcare as well as an art gallery!
About the Author: Arlene Aretha Taylor Rose, is a first generation African American feminist, who grew up in Pacoima, California in the 1980's. Arlene further complicated her difficult childhood by choosing to become a mother at the age of sixteen. After returning to California, Arlene went on to study and subsequently graduate each nursing designation in steps: Certified Nursing Assistant, Licensed Vocational Nurse, Associates Degree Registered Nurse, Bachelors Degree Registered Nurse, Masters Degree Registered Nurse, and lastly she attained a Post Masters Degree, Certification as a Family Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner. Today at 33 years old, Arlene is a single divorced mother of four young dragons, she is an avid reader, a Mental Health Advocate, and now; Arlene is a newly published author. Arlene loves to creates mixed media artistry, is a daring storyteller, and also a detailed painter of words. Where Do Roses Grow Up? is a gift that Arlene gives to the reader, which allows one to glance into a period of Arlene's childhood, share some of her unfavorable scenarios, and use these as lessons for future success. Arlene is convinced that her less than favorable growing environment as with roses, the thorns of her difficult childhood, contributed to every single success in her life. Arlene chose to share pieces of her life story to make a stance for the underdog, the tired fighter, the forlorn, downtrodden, and dis-empowered. Arlene lives with heightened importance for perseverance, resilience, positive role modeling, and sisterhood. Arlene hopes that her real life story inspires others to be the best version of themselves possible!
