About the Book

In this book Travis address the issue of lying and autism. A myth is that people with autism cannot lie. That myth is not always true because people with autism can sometimes be in their make believe world. Their make believe world can seem very real to them but it will not be real to others. This causes others to feel like someone with autism is lying to them and can hurt social relationships. Travis shares how he does not like to lie but sometimes it is hard for him to tell what is real and what is not real because of his make believe world. He tries to be very careful about telling others about his make believe world because he does not want to mislead anyone about anything but sometimes it is hard to tell what is the make believe world and what is a part of reality. In this book Travis is very transparent and honest about how he gets confused sometimes about knowing what is real and what is not real. Travis shares that the make believe world can be an excellent cooping mechanism to help with autism but it can also be a dangerous one if a person with autism becomes lost in their make believe world and stops living their life in the real world. Sometimes parents will think that their child with autism is lying to them and punish the child but that child may really think what they are telling you is real because it is real in their make believe world. Now, the question comes up "Do we punish people with autism for lying?" It is never good to punish someone who thinks that they are telling you the truth. Travis talks about ways to help people with autism decipher what is real from what is not real. Travis gives parents advice for how to tell if their child is lying or if they are simply telling you what is going on in their make believe world in this great book about autism and lying. Read the book to find out how you can help someone with autism learn to tell the difference between the real world and their make believe world that they create to help them cope with autism. Travis gives the reader suggestions and tips on how to interact with someone on the autism spectrum who is stuck in their make believe world. This book teaches you how to engage someone with autism who is stuck in their make believe world and bring them into the real world that we all live in. This is a great book for parents and educators wanting to know more about people with autism lying and their make believe worlds.
About the Author: I'm Travis. I'm a 30 year old author of books about autism. I like football, basketball, tennis, hiking, music, rock, writing, reading, and talking. I have overcome the greatest challenge in my life. I no longer cope with autism I live happily with it. I have some really amazing friends and a truly inspirational and awesome best friend! Life had always been a struggle for me until I started taking responsibility for my own life and situation. I spent a long time wanting and expecting others to fix or improve my life and make it what I wanted it to be. Truth be known, I was the only one who could and can do that. Now I write books about autism and how I am taking responsibility for my own life. What a difference I've seen in life. Life is what we choose to make of it. I don't want to just be known as a guy with Autism. I want to be known as a guy who's doing something awesome with Autism! Travis is dually diagnosed with Autism and Schizophrenia.
