About the Book

THE DISPERSION OF RACES, ACCORDING TO THE URANTIA BOOK tells the story of evolution on our planet that finally puts to rest Darwin's theory that life evolved here and elsewhere "by accident," even though life's incredible complexity seems to point to its creation by God. The answer to this seeming contradiction is that both are true at the same time: Creation by God is true, as is evolution by "natural selection." The "missing link" here is guidance by what URANTIA calls "Life Carriers," who are created beings specifically given the responsibility to scientifically create the "germ plasm" of a planet. Each germ plasm consists of about one million chemical codes that then guide evolution in its unique pathway on that planet, to which the Life Carriers impart the "spark of life" in order for the inert patterns to become living matter. Here is how URANTIA spells this out: (396.1) 36:0.1 Life does not originate spontaneously. Life is constructed according to plans formulated by the "Architects of Being" and appears on the inhabited planets either by direct importation or as a result of the operations of the "Life Carriers" of the local universes. They are entrusted with designing and carrying creature life to the planetary spheres. And after planting this life on such new worlds, they remain there for long periods to foster its development. (400.3) 36:3.8 When the Life Carriers operating on a new world have once succeeded in producing a being with will--with the power of moral decision and spiritual choice--then and there, their work terminates; they are through; they may manipulate the evolving life no further. From this point forward, the evolution of living things must proceed in accordance with the endowment of the inherent nature and tendencies which have already been imparted to, and established in, the planetary life formulas and patterns. The Life Carriers are not permitted to experiment or to interfere with will; they are not allowed to dominate or arbitrarily influence moral creatures. So "creation by God" is inextricably wedded with "evolution by natural selection" as the combination of two mechanisms through which the course of development of our universe has created life on our planet and elsewhere since God created the universe out of pure thought and guided its development by the laws of love ever since. So we are not the only place in the universe where life has ever evolved by some accidental convergence of lifeless elements. Instead, we are one of about a trillion planets inhabited with life forms as alive as we are, but so diverse that their complexity is unimaginable by our level of life form. URANTIA describes much of that complexity for us; and then puts it all in proper perspective as follows: (183.1) 15:14.9 Your planet is a member of an enormous cosmos; you belong to a well-nigh infinite family of worlds, but your sphere is just as precisely administered and just as lovingly fostered as if it were the only inhabited world in all existence.
