About the Book

A funny, far-out musical mystery... A bungling jazz musician gets caught in a crazy, comic world of musical intrigue. David is a neurotic New York jazz pianist, stumbling through his half-baked career. He's the kind of guy who walks out of the bathroom with toilet paper trailing away from his shoe. He hears a few seconds of a mysterious recording of piano music on the radio that burns his soul. The unknown music begins to transform him and he starts to experience extra-sensory perceptions. His obsessive quest to find out the identity of the pianist on the recording leads him through a series of outrageous gigs and in and out of his own slightly off-kilter imagination. Things always seem to go utterly wrong for David, and he finds himself embroiled in a murder, a death-music cult and a mystical battle of the bands. This is a story of a musician's search for his real self, and of music's power to transform the spirit.
About the Author: Like the protagonist in "The Disharmonic Misadventures Of David Stein", Jonathan Segal is a pianist and singer. He has performed at over a thousand events for movie stars, politicians, diplomats, corporations, but mostly for just plain folks. Some of the things Jonathan has done in a long and diverse career: He has composed many themes for network television, including "Monday Night Football" and "Another World", received an Emmy-nomination for "Outstanding Original Song", been an on-camera pianist, music director, actor and co-host for various TV comedy shows, including "Afterdrive" hosted by Denis Leary, was musical director for two international education TV specials that were hosted by Tom Brokaw, starred in the first national tour of Broadway's "Pump Boys And Dinettes" and in "Song Of Singapore" in West Palm Beach, worked in various musical roles for industrial trade shows, appeared in the on-screen band in the feature film "Baby It's You", played in Radio City Music Hall's pit orchestra, served as musical director for Off-Broadway's "Hello Muddah, Hello Faddah", put out albums of his jazz, pop and country songs, written musicals, performed at the piano with a wide range of artists ranging from Dizzy Gillespie to Chuck Berry, won WNYC's "Commentary Slam" with his comic essay, and worked extensively with children teaching piano privately and music directing shows and choruses in various schools and camps.
