El discurso político es una práctica social que permite que las ideas y las opiniones circulen en un espacio público, donde los distintos actores se enfrentan respetando ciertas reglas del sistema de comunicación. Pero el discurso político también está impulsado por el deseo y la necesidad de influir en los ciudadanos. El cuerpo político y el cuerpo ciudadano se encuentran en una relación discursiva de poder que los lleva a utilizar estrategias de persuasión. Porlo tanto, es una cuestión de lenguaje. Pero este libro, además, se ocupa de otras cuestiones: el poder y la legitimidad del discurso político; las imágenes que el orador político construye para seducir y parecer creíble; y los imaginarios de verdad que definen un ideal social.
Finalmente, en El discurso político. Las máscaras del poder ofrece una reflexión sobre los nuevos fenómenos que están surgiendo en el espacio social y permite contrarrestar la idea de una degeneración del discurso político y cuestionar la ética de la política.
