Ausgehend von den fruhen fotografischen Arbeiten Eugene Atgets, die den Beginn einer 'Fotogeschichte der Dinge' markieren, begibt sich die Autorin im vorliegenden Buch auf die 'Spur' von Alltagsgegenstanden in der analogen Fotografie. In den von Atget fotografierten Innenraumen werden etwa ein paar Schuhe oder Kuchenutensilien bildwurdig. Dienten in den Anfangszeiten der Fotografie Dinge vor allem deswegen als Motiv, weil sie den langen Belichtungszeiten standhalten konnten, verlagern sich Fotografinnen und Fotografen der Gegenwartskunst aus anderen Grunden auf das neutrale Terrain der Dinge: Die Nahe von Alltagsgegenstanden zum Menschen ermoglicht es, auf diesen zu verweisen, ohne ihn direkt abzubilden. Das Buch untersucht das Wechselspiel von Ding und Mensch an den zeitgenossischen Arbeiten von Sophie Calle, Wolfgang Tillmans, Candida Hofer, Thomas Demand, Anna und Bernhard Blume, Peter Fischli und David Weiss. Dabei ist jeder einzelnen fotografischen Position ein monografisches Kapitel gewidmet, unterschiedliche kunstlerische Strategien werden verdeutlicht und in Bezug zueinander gesetzt. Das Spektrum der Fotografien reicht von der Nahe zwischen Ding und Mensch bis zum scheinbaren Eigenleben der Dinge. Es ist festzustellen, dass die zu behandelnde Themenstellung theoretisch umfassend reflektiert und grundlich in einer sowohl flussigen als auch anschaulichen Ausdrucksweise behandelt wird. Die sorgfaltige Auswahl und Qualitat der (.) Abbildungen in schwarz-weiss und der sich anschliessende farbige Abbildungsteil seien ebenfalls positiv erwahnt. About the Author: Christina Pack, geb. 1974, studierte Germanistik, Kunsterziehung und freie Kunst an der Westfalischen Wilhelms-Universitat und der Kunstakademie Munster, wo sie zur Meisterschulerin ernannt wurde. Wahrend ihres Kunststudiums setzte sie sich mit der praktischen Seite der Fotografie von Alltagsgegenstanden auseinander. Mit ihrer Dissertation, die der Publikation zugrunde liegt, wurde sie 2006 an der Humboldt-Universitat zu Berlin promoviert. Derzeit ist sie Studienreferendarin fur die Facher Kunst und Deutsch in Berlin.
