Die Digitalisierung führte zu disruptiven Geschäftsmodellinnovationen und definierte die Marktgrenzen der Finanzbranche neu. Neben den traditionellen Banken finden sich im Finanzsektor neue Akteure mit ihren innovativen und digitalen Geschäftsmodellen. Somit stellt das Thema dieser Arbeit eine Geschäftsmodellanalyse des Fintechs und Finanzdienstleisters Wirecard AG mit Sitz in Aschheim bei München dar. Mittels einer Literaturrecherche beschäftigt sich diese Untersuchung mit dem Ziel, das Geschäftsmodell der Wirecard AG zu analysieren und wesentliche Faktoren und Merkmale zu schildern. Zur Erreichung des Ziels der Arbeit wurde zunächst auf theoretische Grundlagen - die Digitalisierung und das Geschäftsmodell näher eingegangen. Anschließend wurden die Auswirkungen der digitalen Transformation der Geschäftsmodelle im Finanzsektor einerseits bei den traditionellen Banken und anderseits bei den Fintech-Unternehmen beurteilt. Aus den theoretischen Ansätzen ließ sich ableiten, dass die digitalen Geschäftsmodelle zur Vielfältigkeit des Finanzsektors beitrugen und eine positive Tendenz im Hinblick auf Akzeptanz und Beliebtheit der digitalen Lösungen in der Gesellschaft sowie in der Wirtschaft aufweisen. Das Geschäftsmodell des Unternehmens Wirecard AG wurde mithilfe des St. Galler Business Modell Navigators nach vier Dimensionen (Wer? Was? Wie? Wert?) analysiert. Daraus ließ sich das Gesamtbild des Geschäftsmodells gewinnen, das die Erfolgsfaktoren, Wettbewerbsvorteile sowie dafür notwendige Kompetenzen und Know-how beinhaltet. Außerdem ließen sich daraus Stärken, Schwächen, Chancen und Risiken des Geschäftsmodells ableiten.
