Es hat stets eine grosse Differenz in der Beurteilung der Asthetik des Koran zwischen den westlichen Islamwissenschaftlern und den Muslimen gegeben. Wahrend die Muslime die Schonheit des Koran und seine Unnachahmlichkeit sowohl in sprachlicher, rhetorischer und literarischer Hinsicht hervorheben, konnen viele europaische Orientalisten dem Koran in asthetischer Hinsicht kaum etwas Positives abgewinnen. Diese Orientalisten verkennen zum einen den liturgischen Rezitationscharakter des koranischen Texts und zum anderen den Zusammenhang zwischen dem asthetischen Urteil der Muslime und der glaubigen Rezeption des Korantexts in der muslimischen Gesellschaft. Die islamische Literatur halt zahlreiche Zeugnisse bereit, worin die sinnlich erfassbare Seite der Koranrezitation dokumentiert ist. Der safi'itische Jurist und Rechtsgelehrte Abu Ishaq Ahmad ibn Muhammad ibn Ibrahim at-Ta'labi (gest. 427/1035-1036) hat in seiner mystisch erbaulichen biographischen Sammlung Kitab fihi qatla l-Qur'an die extremste Wirkung festgehalten, die eine Koranrezitation beim Horer hervorrufen kann. Das kleine Werk enthalt neunzehn Uberlieferungen uber Asketen sowie vier Einnen, die in Folge einer Koranrezitation gestorben sind. Mit der kommentierten Edition und Ubersetzung der drei Handschriften zu at-Ta'labis Werk mochte die Arbeit einen Beitrag zur asthetischen Rezeptionsgeschichte des Koran leisten. Der Kommentar zum Qatla l-Qur'an hat folgende Ziele: Es sollen zum einen die in der Schrift sowohl explizit als auch implizit enthaltenen Faktoren herausgearbeitet werden, deren Zusammenwirken den Tod der Personen und Einnen bei der Koranrezitation hervorrufen. Danach werden die einzelnen Personen und ihre asketische Geistes- und Lebenshaltung naher beleuchtet. Anschliessend beschaftigt sich der Kommentar mit der stereotypen Erzahlweise und Struktur der Uberlieferungen. Zum Schluss wird at-Ta'labis Werk im Kontext der mystischen Literatur betrachtet.
